I want to live
I want to run through the jungle
With wind in my hair and the sand at my feet
I’ve been having difficulties keeping to myself
Feelings and emotions better left up on the shelf
Animals and children tell the truth, they never lie
Which one is more human
There’s a thought, now you decide.
Compassion in the jungle
Compassion in your hands, yeah
Reminiscing these lines composed by the legendary musical band Savage Garden got lost in my childhood. Suddenly while humming the tune, I found a strange missing link between a recent incident that shook the entire city, better known as city of joy.
As the video captured & went viral exposing & expanding the human cruelty curve higher against the pet animals, the city experiences a stigma to its image of being kind & sensitive to its inhabitants. Naturally we hear lot of hue & cry from the animal welfare society, media & civic society but the question had already been raised which is pretty alarming for the entire human race. Whether the convicts are guilty or innocent or we had seen just another example of casual act of gruesomeness that’s a separate ball game all together & it’s always better to leave it to the law & the governance – but we being the civilized race need to perform a thorough introspection.
It’s amazing to be blessed as a part of human society but when our behavior takes the different route then we need to rethink are we heading towards the right direction? Similar cruel acts are the natural outcome of sheer intolerance, anxiety which would gradually become a disorder. This is very frequent sight in our society where these domestic animals become the target.
So this becomes highly essential that we nurture a mindset to be compassionate & kind to these species.
Perhaps thus would really help to sing & realize the real meaning of “The Animal Song“.
